Backwater Taxidermy was established in 2001 by Todd Carroll as a hobby which later evolved into an award-winning part-time business. As an avid duck hunter, Todd began to learn the craft in order to mount his own birds. As more time and equipment were invested into his hobby, and numerous requests from fellow hunters and friends began to come in, he decided to make it an official enterprise, and Backwater Taxidermy was born. Todd has entered numerous competitions and risen to higher competitive levels throughout the years. Backwater Taxidermy is unique in that Todd specializes only in birds and, because of this unique specialty, each bird is prepared with the greatest attention to detail and near 'competition' quality. Competition touches include high quality glass eyes, hand-crafted eye rings, injected feet, high quality species and sex specific air-brush painting and custom crafted habitats. All rocks are original and hand carved and fitted to each specific bird. Wooden bases, glass cases and dead mount plaques are also hand made making each piece an unique and orginal piece of avian arwork. Backwater is still a small business, it is truly a hobby business done for the love of the craft....each bird is done each in its own time, one at a time - each given a craftsmans time and attention not commonly found in commercial taxidermy operations.
